This award is fantastic recognition for the many volunteers, past and present who have worked so tirelessly to support KCHT in providing over 40 safe, secure, affordable homes here in Keswick. It is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.

We were pleased to be able to show Trudy around three of our developments and to discuss, in some depth, the ongoing housing challenges experienced here in Keswick.
We are encouraged that our MPs, including Trudy, are researching ways to address the current imbalance in the housing market in property hotspots like Keswick. Follow this link to read Trudy's impressions of her visit. We are holding our AGM at the Quaker Meeting House on Tuesday 17th May 2022 at 6:30pm.
If you wish to attend by zoom, please email [email protected] by Friday 13th May 2022 All are welcome We spent a beautiful sunny saturday morning planting a row of beech hedging on either side of the entrance to Calvert Way - ably assisted by little helpers. Many thanks to the Lake District Foundation for their grant, which covered the costs of the plants and sustainable compost from Dalefoot, and to Atkinsons for digging the planting trenches for us.
We had a beautiful sunny day as we celebrated the official opening of our Southey Court development on 14th July surrounded by a multitude of people and organisations who have helped us on our journey of making this dream become a reality.

Since formation, KCHT has been fortunate to receive support, both financial and non-financial, from the local community, Local Authorities and Government Agencies. In return we share our experiences of building houses as a CLT with other newly forming Community Land Trust groups and interested parties.
As a result KCHT has been included as a case study on a number of websites: Keswick is a special place to live and work in – positioned on the shores of Derwentwater, and surrounded by fells and woodlands. Tourism is an essential element of life in Keswick however the rising proportion of properties being used as second homes or holiday cottages within Keswick and the surrounding area is depleting the housing stock available for the local community to buy or rent, and the rate that house prices have increased makes it very difficult for local people to buy a home or find one to rent. As a consequence, the sense of ‘local community’ is gradually being eroded.
KCHT has formed a lobbying sub-group to working with the Keswick Town Council, and other interested parties. Article in Keswick Reminder 22 Dec 2020 Friday 11th December, Letter from Bill Bewley to the Reminder “Work together to keep town vibrant and flourishing for young families of the future.” Article in Keswick Reminder October 2020 Work has now been started on the Southey Court Development
